Couch to 5K: Take two!

I started C25K a few months ago.
I quit.
It was really hot.  I doubt heat strokes are that much fun.

Three weeks ago, I started going back to the gym.
I goofed off the first week on the elliptical machines, then braved the treadmills.
I decided to repeat the first week.

I've timed my mile three times now. The first time was during week one on the treadmill. I didn't write it down, but it was 13 minutes.
W2D1- 12:10
W2D3-  11:52

Granted the times are jogging/running and walking intervals.
I had goal a while back of running two miles in 21:00.

There is a 5K coming up in my town October 9th. That's four days after my 27th (gasp) birthday.  I am seriously thinking of doing it. I should have "graduated" from C25K a few weeks prior to that.  I am hoping that it will have cooled down enough to run outside.

I know I will be one of the last ones to finish.
Why do I want to do it?
I've lost 100 lbs in the last year and a half. I've been working hard on getting healthy. It's after my birthday. I've spent the last 10 years being obese, unfit and unhealthy. I also have social anxiety disorder, so just being able to get out there and finish will be a huge accomplishment.

  1. Wow. Great goal. You inspire me. I actually attempted to run the other day after I got home from my trip and hadn't exercised in a couple weeks... between the heat and the time lapse I nearly died. Good luck.

  3. Go for it! I just signed up last week for my first 5k race. If I can do it, you can do it. And those are great times for your miles. Keep up the good work.

  4. Good luck!!! I have always wanted to run a 5K but I haven't been able to run in a long time. Plus, like you I have social anxiety disorder, and am sure I couldn't get anyone to run it with me and there is no way I could run one alone. I am sure you will do well though, so go for it! And Congrats on the 100 lbs lost.
