Nothing is as exciting as getting new diapers in the mail.
Well... Other than a check you weren't expecting. Sound crazy? It comes with the territory.
Its kind of one of those "You gotta be a cloth diapering mommy" things.
The down side?
New diapers generally have to be prepped. Its not hard to do. Just do a cycle with some detergent, then dry ... And repeat (minus the detergent) ... Like 5-10 times. Some materials like hemp may need more cycles.
Why the need to prep?
To remove the natural oils and chemicals. This also makes the diapers fluff up and become absorbent.
Prefolds will quilt up, and seem to shrink. I was surprised when I bought a dozen regular prefolds. Brand new, those jokers were HUGE!
I have been known to skip the whole prepping thing because I was so eager to try out a diaper. I don't recommend that. You will usually end up with leaks. Or the phenomenon of a kid knowing that they're wearing a new diaper and pooping in it within 5 minutes.
Oh I just hate that prepping! I'd like to think I'm done with that but I know better with two in cloth diapers and the younger having only just turned one.
